Who are we?
Cumbria Coast Karate kicked opened its doors in March 2017 at the High Harrington Community Centre with just four students. Since then we have opened another three dojos in Ennerdale, Lamplugh and St Bees, currently having a student base of approximately seventy members.
The dojos are ran and overseen by Sensei Mark Stevens who is assisted by other CCK Club Instructors and also Assistant Instructors. All instructors are DBS/CRB checked, have first aid training and our Safeguarding Team have also completed a child safeguarding course.
What do we teach?
We teach Wado Ryu Karate. When we opened we decided upon providing an effective technical approach to karate. Working from Eastern and Western teachings, from various sources to create an adaptable syllabus that can be used in today’s current climate.
The original karate system was developed in Okinawa, Japan for civilian self defence, with this in mind the syllabus encompasses these findings. A lot of discovery that students will learn along the journey is a lot based on the theory of why, how and when (should a technique be used).
As well as building confidence, social skills, respect, concentration and focus, karate offers an all round advantage for anyone willing to give it a try.
Our pricing scheme is intended to be affordable for everyone who trains with us. With your membership you can train at any dojo on any of the nights for the same lesson fee. Family discounts are also available. We take anyone from 6 years and above with or without experience. Come and try it for free.
